We had a wonderful evening at the New Yorker Restaurant on Sunday, May 23, at which we honored Mr. Sam Wilson, the artist who painted the Stations of the Cross for our Cathedral. Mr. Wilson has had a brilliant career in the art world and has had many showings over the years. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in the University of Utah Department of Art. Several of his colleagues – Michael Stransky, Ruth Lubbers and Joe Marotta – paid him tribute. The stations he painted are unique and they are highly symbolic. They are exquisite works that fit nicely into the cathedral and enhance its beauty. Mr. Wilson is a humble, bright and highly engaging man whose magnificent contribution to our cathedral will be remembered always. Congratulations on winning this year’s Cathedral of the Madeleine Award, Mr. Wilson. We are all the richer for the sharing of your great gifts.
