March 20, 1935  ~ March 24, 2018

Charles Fidel Ghirardelli was born on March 20, 1935 and passed away surrounded by his family on March 24, 2018 at the age of 83.

Chuck was born in Helper to Joseph and Rose Mazzarise Ghirardelli. He had two brothers, Joseph Jr. and Richard; and one sister, Norine. He graduated from the University of Utah’s School of Pharmacy in 1958. He dearly loved the people of Helper and thoroughly enjoyed serving them at Chuck’s Pharmacy from 1961 to 2006. Chuck was a friend to all who knew him; he never turned his back to those in need. Whether you were a stranger just passing through, a lifelong friend or someone who just needed your prescriptions filled, you were welcome to come and “shoot the bull” and always left with a friend in Chuck.

Chuck was honored to serve his community as the mayor of Helper City for two consecutive terms from 1970 to 1978. He enjoyed many hobbies, particularly trap-shooting, hunting and fishing at the cabin in Scofield, and watching Notre Dame football. We will never forget his constant reminder to all of us about “how good Notre Dame football is going to be next year.”

Chuck had many great accomplishments, but his greatest was his family. He married Mary Tallerico on December 27, 1958 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church.  Together they had four daughters, locally known as “Charlie’s Angels,” and he “wouldn’t trade one of his girls for any boy in the world.” Chuck and Mary have seven grandchildren, whom he was extremely proud of and reminded them always of how lucky they were to have such good kids: Whitney Waterfall, Cole Waterfall, Freston Smith, Wyatt Henrie, Ryker Smith, Quade Henrie and Quincy Henrie.  They also have three great-grandchildren, Dominic Cowan, Konlee Cowan and Brodi Waterfall.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary Ghirardelli; daughters Keely Ghirardelli of Maple Valley, Wash.; Wendy (Nick) Milovich of Salt Lake; Cindy (Mike) Smith of Helper; and Cory (Shane) Henrie of Price; sister, Norine (Ronald) Jewkes of Kenilworth; sisters-in-law Marlene Ghirardelli of Price; LouAnn Varner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Jerry (Dixon) Black of Helper; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Ghirardelli; brothers Joseph Ghirardelli Jr. and Richard Ghirardelli; and in-laws Louie and Florence Tallerico.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 28, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Committal was at Mt. View Cemetery. Memories of Chuck may be shared online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
