Chrism Mass with Bishop Solis + Enlarge

The Oil of the Sick and the Oil of the Catechumens were blessed, and the Chrism Oil was consecrated by Bishop Oscar A. Solis at the Chrism Mass on April 6 in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. In his homily at the Mass, Bishop Solis said he felt privileged and blessed to welcome all who attended the event at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. “It is a blessed evening when we all unite ourselves physically and spiritually as one large faith community here in this beautiful Cathedral of the Madeleine, our mother church and the spiritual home of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. This gathering represents our unity as the local Church in the State of Utah. This liturgical celebration and tradition from the early centuries of our faith highlights for us an oftentimes forgotten but vitally important teaching of our church: that all of us believers in Christ, by virtue of our baptism, are members a priestly people, sharers in the priestly ministry and identity and people of mission of Christ.” With the renewal of vows by the clergy and religious, and the renewal of baptismal vows by the laity, “this gathering mirrors the divine design of our deeper communion and relationship as one faith community, as one God’s family,” he said. “… It is also a reminder of our communion in carrying out the mission of Christ in the world. … As priests, deacons and laity, we all share in Christ’s ministry to proclaim the Good News of God’s love and salvation to all the world.”
