Nearly 500 children received new and gently used coats Nov. 7 at Catholic Community Services in Ogden through a distribution that combined the resources of the Knights of Columbus of Northern Utah, CCS, and The United Way of Northern Utah. Six churches from Logan to Layton pooled their resources for this event. The Knights purchased 360 new coats and collected another 200 from their parishes and Ogden Regional Medical Center. During the distribution, the children were able to pick a coat their own size and color; 28 Knights and their family members assisted the kids. After helping kids find their coats, the Knights escorted the children to another room to get gloves, scarves and other items provided by CCS and United Way. This year’s distribution was a month earlier than past years to ensure kids had coats before the winter cold hits.
