Mar. 19, 1935 ~ Sept. 16, 2017

Colleen Fisher Carter died peacefully on the morning of Sept. 16, 2017. She was born Mar. 19, 1935, to Marlow Lyon Fisher and Leone Parrish in Bingham. Her family moved to Centerville, when she was 2. She attended Centerville Elementary, South Davis Junior High and Davis High School. She married Don Falkner and raised five children: Lynn (Michaela), Ann (John), Mark (Sidnee), Dane (Mary Jo) and Misty. They were later divorced. She married Alvie Carter and had one son, Chris (Leasa).

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Glen and grandson Samuel Falkner. She is survived by her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her siblings Sylvia Jutila (George), Paul (Ruth), Bruce and George (Ruth Ann), and her loyal dog, Kita.

Colleen was known for her generosity and her fearless and frank approach to life. She had several careers throughout her life, including time as a registered nurse, managing properties and businesses, running her own antique shop and a tropical fish store, where her favorite pet was an octopus. Her home was filled with animals. She loved gardening and filled her yard with plants to attract butterflies. She also kept beehives for several years. She was an accomplished musician and artist. Her love for nature was reflected in her landscape oil paintings.

Her Catholic faith brought her much comfort and fulfillment, especially as her health declined over the last year. She stated that she could not wait to “sing with the choirs of angels.” Listen closely because in the stillness of the night, in the colors of a sunset and in the eyes of a person in need you will hear her spirit ring forth. Her legacy is that she accepted people as they are. She lived with compassion and tolerance.

A celebration of Colleen’s life was held on Sept. 20. Internment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” Mother Teresa of Kolkata
