SALT LAKE CITY — Two friars from the Southern Dominican Province of Saint Martin de Porres will join lay leaders from across the diocese for a day of study and prayer July 11. This event will be held at Saint Vincent de Paul Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Holladay. The day is designed to share the faith and strengthen the laity’s call to service.

The Congar Institute of San Antonio, Texas, has assisted the Offices of Religious Education and Hispanic Ministry in arranging offerings that include choices of a spirituality day for Hispanic leaders or a study day on "Ecclesiology, A View of the Church."

Congar Institute Director and presenter, Dominican Father Wayne A. Cavalier, has worked closely with our lay ecclesial ministry formation program for the last two years. The Institute provides resource persons who assist dioceses in their important work of forming pastoral leaders to serve in local churches and institutions. Their work is often with Home Mission dioceses such as ours.

María Cruz Gray, director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry said Dominican Father Jorge L. Presmanes will conduct an inspirational day of prayer for Spanish-speaking leaders from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A native of Cuba, Fr. Presmanes is a well-known scholar, writer, and Director of the Barry University Institute for Hispanic/Latino Theology & Ministry located in Miami. He is especially active in the development of programs for lay ecclesial ministry.

All clergy and laity are invited and most welcome to attend either session. Contact the Office of Religious Education or Hispanic Ministry to register for this event. The cost for the ecclesiology presentation or the day of prayer is $10, which includes a catered luncheon and all educational materials.
