The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in Utah celebrates Council Sunday every year in October to bring awareness to the Catholic community of the work accomplished by our women’s council throughout the state. This year, some activities were held on Oct. 17 while other councils celebrated on different weekends.

Members of St. Paul Catholic Center in Hurricane, Southern Deanery, celebrated Council Sunday by handing out a fresh flower with a blessed prayer card and a bright “Let Your Light Shine” sunflower pen. Each pen had an invitation attached for the women to submit their names and contact information, if interested in joining the DCCW. The gift was created by Tim Greene, husband of Judy Greene, a Deanery past president. Judy Greene also gave a brief presentation about the value and contributions of women to the Church and the DCCW.

Flyers were handed out that told the story in depth. A follow-up luncheon will be held in November. In addition, Rae Crozier, St. Paul’s Woman of the Year, was presented with her medal and introduced again to the congregation.

St. Anthony Parish in Helper celebrated Council Sunday on Oct. 17 by displaying the awards they received at the recent DCCW Convention.

The awards were for Affiliate of the Year in 2020, second place winners for the most miles traveled and third place for the most attendees at convention. Each woman at Mass that day was presented with a Lady of Good Counsel card that contained information on the monthly meetings and contact information if they wish to join. Later that day, the Eastern Deanery meeting was held and the women who attended from Vernal, Roosevelt and Helper planned the Deanery activities for the coming months.

The St. Olaf Council of Catholic Women conducted their Council Sunday activities as part of their annual Ladies Luncheon Fundraiser.

The Oct. 9 event was a great kickoff to return to regular council activities following the loosening of COVID restrictions, and was the group’s first fundraiser since the beginning of the pandemic, said Michelle Hale, the group’s president. The luncheon was a tea party theme; about 110 people attended. The event opened with the introduction of current council board members, an explanation of the mission and ministry of the council, and encouragement for the women to sign up for the council’s weekly email newsletter.
