After our nuptial Mass at the Cathedral last Saturday I travel to Blessed Sacrament Parish in Sandy, where I gave a presentation on immigration to the diocesan Council of Catholic women. Michael O’Shea, president of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, invited me to speak on the position of the Catholic Church on immigration matters in the United States. She noted that there are many varying opinions on this volatile discussion taking place in our country today and that it is important to inform ourselves as much as we can so that we can enter into the conversation responsibly and intelligently. I was very impressed with the excellent comments and questions that came from those who participated in the talk and I encourage all of us to do what we can to learn about the issues related to immigration and comprehensive reform. Thanks for inviting me, Michael, and thanks to all in the DCCW for all you do in our diocese.
