Probably the reader knows about his or her parish council but did you know that the diocese also has such a council? We do! The Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) meets regularly throughout the year in order make recommendations to me in the administration of the diocese. The members of the council represent the entire diocese and reflect our diversity, potential and varied backgrounds. They study the major projects of the diocese and look ahead to ensure that we are moving in the right direction. These talented people are very generous with their time and they are a great help to me in responding to the challenges we face as a church. I value their advice and appreciate the wisdom and experience they bring to our meetings.

Once each year we gather for a retreat so that we can pray and reflect together as we seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Last year, our dear friend, Archbishop Niederauer, gave a wonderful retreat that helped our members to experience more deeply the Lord’s presence in their lives and in the life of our diocese.

Juliana Boerio-Goates is our current president and she is ably assisted by Jess Shackelford, Joan Erickson, Mary Adams, Madalyn Seaman and Colleen Gudreau, all of whom are on the executive committee. There are approximately 40 members on the council, who serve staggered terms. If you know of a DPC member, let them know what you think and they will be sure to reflect your thoughts at our next meeting.
