Cases of bottled water surround an image of St. John Paul II at an evacuee shelter Aug. 28 for people displaced by Tropical Storm Harvey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas. The north Houston parish opened its doors when the massive storm crippled the Galveston-Houston region with continuous rains, causing rivers to overflow their banks and prompting mandatory evacuations.

A special collection for the victims of Hurricane Harvey will be taken up in the Diocese of Salt Lake City on the weekend of Sept. 9-10.

“Let us pray for our brothers and sisters in Texas for their safety from the effects of the hurricane,” said the Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, 10th Bishop of Salt Lake City.

To offer financial help, donations to Hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts also may be made through Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church. For information, visit www.catholiccharitiesusa.org.
