August 9, 1939 ~ January 10, 2024

Fine artist and textile designer Elizabeth Eleanor Crowder was gently guided by the “art angels” to her favorite place, “the South of France,” on January 10, 2024.

Our Mom was a unique, creative, loving (on her terms), smart, articulate, strong-willed and determined individual with a deep love for God.

She was born August 9, 1939 to Dr. Robert M. Crowder and Dorothy T. Crowder in Sioux City, Iowa. Mom was the oldest child, followed by Nancy Roberts and Robert Crowder III (Bobby).

Betty, as she was called in her younger years, was a beauty queen, cheerleader and Homecoming royalty at Judge Memorial Catholic High School. Mom graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in political science, affiliating with the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later obtained a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Utah.

Mom loved to learn, to read, and had a beautiful library that she was so proud of. She loved her garden and flowers. She was active in the Junior League of SLC, the Salt Lake Arts Council and the Utah Heritage Foundation.

She married John E. Delaney, Sr. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on December 31, 1960, and together they brought four kind children into the world. Mom and Dad later divorced, and when Elizabeth was 81 years old, she married Steven Todd.

Survived by Nancy Roberts, Bridget Delaney, Melissa Barnett (Dr. Kyle Barnett), John Delaney, Jr. (Annette), and grandchildren John Barnett (Nicole), Kyle Barnett, Jr. (Priscilla) and Delaney Barnett. Preceded in death, and welcomed with joy, by her father, mother, brother, 1-day old daughter Mary Elizabeth, former husbands and many friends.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on January 24, 2024 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Committal followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

May she rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
