VERNAL — Ernest Edward Martinez, Sr., 86, passed away Nov. 21, 2014.

Martinez was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Pedro and Rosaura Casados Martinez. He served in the Navy during WWII in Guam and Pearl Harbor. After leaving the military, he spent most of his life in construction as a cement worker for home and road construction. 

Martinez is survived by children Robert Eppy Martinez, Sharon Martinez and Michael Martinez; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Martinez was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Martinez, Jr.; grandson Ernest Martinez, III; granddaughter Naomi Morningdove Martinez; and sisters Margaret Miera and Viola Garcia. 

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Helen Catholic Church; burial was in the Ft. Duchesne Cemetery with military honors.
