First CWL president inspired others
Friday, Feb. 12, 2016
SALT LAKE CITY — The Catholic Woman’s League presidents have been inspired by the president who reigned before them; perhaps Emma McCornick Bird, the first president, started this trend when the organization began in 1916. They have tried to continue and extend the mission of the league.
“Each president tried to continue and extend the mission of the league and tried to make the work of the league known by becoming involved in the civic events and by joining with other women’s groups,” said Mary Mayo, the eldest CWL president still living.
The CWL presidents who are still living are:
Mary Mayo, 1979-1981
Ann Bero, 19895-1987
Jean Henkels, 1987-1989
Kathy Scott, 1989-1991
Kathleen Grisley, 1993-1995
Sylvia D’Ambrosio, 2001-2001
Gail Hensleigh, 2004-2007
Carol Harley, 2007-2009
Rosalie Mirabelli, 2009-2011
Linda Burt, 2011-2013
Cheryl Johnson, 2013-2015
Linda Itami 2015 to present
