Independent Review Board

  attended a meeting of our independent Review Board this past week as well. Under the watchful and experienced eye of Mrs. Rosemary Baron, who chairs our board, we looked at our various diocesan policies that implement the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the norms developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to help protect our children and young people from sexual and other forms of abuse. In addition, we discussed the upcoming audit, conducted by a company hired by the USCCB, which will evaluate the effective implementation of these policies. I am very grateful to the Board for its hard work and I thank each and every one of them for their vigilance. At the same time, I remind all of us that we carry the responsibility of ensuring that our young people are able to grow up in a safe environment, especially within Catholic communities and institutions.
