Many, many thanks to Mr. Gregory Glenn, Cathedral Liturgy Director, and Mrs. Dee Rowland, Government Liaison for the Diocese and Director of the Peace and Justice Commission, who planned and implemented a beautiful interfaith prayer service last week for our immigrant brothers and sisters in Utah. While there are many opportunities to discuss and debate this thorny issue, people filled the Cathedral last Thursday night simply to pray for those who find themselves lost in the political tensions and emotional uncertainties of immigration in the United States today. Our beautiful choirs set a prayerful tone for all who attended this service where faith leaders from the Lutheran, Muslim, Jewish, Episcopal, Baptist and Catholic faiths shared sacred texts and reflections in support of those who are far from home and trying to create a new one in the pursuit of a better life. As the last chords of the recessional hymn were struck, one felt a certain peace as people lingered for a moment to call to mind the need for God’s grace in finding a viable solution for our immigrant brothers and sisters. Please continue to keep this important intention in your good prayers, asking the Lord to guide our federal officials toward the path of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
