James (Jim) L. Stanley, a loving and deeply cherished man, passed away on October 12, 2023, at the age of 79 in Sandy. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Jim’s legacy is a testament to a life marked by love, kindness, strength and steadfast devotion.

A Salt Lake City native, Jim graduated from Highland High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Claire Stanley, which began his unwavering love story. Together, they raised three remarkable children: Dawn Dielmann, Edward Stanley and Heather Flowers. He was also a cherished father-in-law to Dave Dielmann, a proud grandfather to Joshua Dielmann, and a loving great-grandfather to Taylor Dielmann.

Jim was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church, and he and Claire were not only partners in life but also in faith. They served side by side in Marriage Encounter, touching the lives of many couples with their wisdom and devotion. Their volunteering efforts extended to numerous parish and school activities, reflecting their shared commitment to making the world a better place.

Professionally, Jim spent much of his life as a skilled toolmaker and mold man, dedicating over 27 years to Abbott Laboratories in the hospital products division in Salt Lake City. He took pride in knowing that his work was used to help make products that served the public.

Jim was an innovator and enjoyed working with his hands, always seeking new and creative ways to tackle life’s challenges with a positive mindset. Jim enjoyed many different kinds of music, especially jazz, musicals and piano, which he would occasionally play a bit too loudly for Claire’s liking. Jim and Claire delighted in traveling throughout the United States and Europe, always with an open heart and an eagerness to meet new people. His remarkable ability to see the best in everyone was underscored by the warmth of his smile and the playful twinkle in his eye. Above all, Jim’s love for his wife Claire was boundless, and he dedicated himself to putting her and others first. He was a deep thinker and feeler, constantly seeking to broaden his understanding of the world and deepen his faith.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim’s honor to the American Cancer Society:  https://www.cancer.org/about-us/local/utah.html.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Holladay.
