By The Most Rev. John C. Wester
Bishop of Salt Lake City

Father Javier Virgen, Vicar for Hispanic Affairs and Associate Vocations Director; Deacon Ricardo Arias of the diocesan Office of Hispanic Affairs, and I went to Judge Memorial Catholic High School last Thursday to visit the faculty and remind them of the importance of promoting vocations to the priesthood. The principal, Mr. Rick Bartman, kindly gave us the majority of time during the regularly scheduled faculty meeting so we could engage the teachers in a discussion on fostering vocations within the school community. I was very happy and impressed with the suggestions they provided. One of the very important points made is that all of us in the diocese are part of the Vocations Office. Each and every Catholic must make the conscious decision to encourage vocations and to invite young men to consider whether Christ is calling them to this important role of service in our Church. We will visit Juan Diego Catholic High School and St. Joseph Catholic High School later in the month. Please remember to pray for priestly vocations, asking the Lord of the Harvest to bless our diocese with dedicated and loving priests, such as we have today.
