VERNAL — Leonard E. Heeney, 86, died on May 8 in Vernal, Utah.

Heeney was born June 24, 1924 in Sheephorn, Colo. to Paul Revere and Vernie Blanche Heeney. He married Nelle Eastin June 1, 1947.

Heeney ran a successful construction company that grew until his retirement in 1989. He was known for getting the job done and for his honesty, integrity and dependability. Leonard served on the Vernal City Council and was mayor of Vernal for eight years. He was an active member of Saint James Parish in Vernal and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Heeney is survived by his wife, Nelle, daughters Teresa Davenport, Vernie Heeney, Gail Wittenburg (David) and son Clifton (Tuuli); seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James Catholic Church.
