PARK CITY — Sister Bernadette Beamsley of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ from Prayer Town, Texas, will present a Life in the Spirit Seminar at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish’s Old Town Chapel in Park City on Oct. 24.
“I’ve heard her speaking all over the country,” said Annette Baber, founder of the parish’s Sacred Heart Charismatic Prayer Group, which is sponsoring the seminar. “She is a teacher, a speaker, and she operates in the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
The Catholic religious order to which Sr. Bernadette belongs is a contemplative community of Franciscan and Charismatic sisters with evangelistic apostolates. “We were born of the Charismatic Renewal and have a Charismatic spirituality that includes praise and worship, and the use of the charismatic gifts of the Spirit both in prayer and in ministry,” according to the order’s website.
“All of the nuns go out all over the world proclaiming the Gospel,” said Baber, who has founded two Magnificat chapters; Sr. Bernadette has spoken at both.
The seminars offered by Sr. Bernadette are “an evangelical call to bring people into a deeper and closer personal walk with Jesus Christ, God’s son, and the Catholic Church,” Baber said, adding that she hopes people who attend the event at St. Mary’s will “fall more deeply in love with God, and that they will make others know his love. Saint John Paul II said the Church needs to be converted, and that’s really what we’re doing.”
A prayer team at the seminar will pray individually with people for their needs, she said.
