Maria Delfinia Barela, 87, passed away on March 14, 2018 in Garland, Utah. She was born on June 10, 1930 to parents Leonardo and Emilia Martinez in Solo, Rio Arriba County, N.M.

She married Eddie Mack Barela on November 29, 1969 in Elko, Nev.

Delfinia lived in Petaca, N.M.; Washakie, Utah; Riverside, Utah, and Garland, Utah. She worked for many years as a migrant worker, and was head of a migrant council.

Delfinia was a member of the Catholic Church. She traveled the world for the Church, receiving many awards and certificates. She was involved in the IHRD migrant Head Start Program.

She dedicated her time to the Santa Ana Church, taught CCD for many years, and held many fundraisers to help build Santa Ana Catholic Church. She was also the coordinator for Santa Ana Parish.

Delfinia is survived by her husband, Eddie Barela; nine children: Herman Archuleta (Linda), Jose Archuleta (Cheri), Becky Beltran, Walter Barela (Allison), Charlot McCafferty (Ken), Felix Barela (Bertha), Deana Millward (Mike), Shiralee Barela and Priscilla Maldonado (Felix); 38 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emily and Leonardo Martinez; daughters Margaret Archuleta and Dorothy Sheriff; daughter-in-law Shanon Archuleta; and four great-great grandchildren: Angelia, Amelia, Jessie and James.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on March 19 at Santa Ana Catholic Church in Tremonton. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Bear River Valley Hospital staff, Tremonton and Garland EMS and law enforcement, and Austin and Kylee Bowcutt.
