Marriage Encounter

I was pleased to meet with Carmen and Martin Hernandez early in May to discuss Marriage Encounter. They administer the Spanish-speaking program in our diocese. I am very happy that this fine couple is working so hard on this very worthwhile endeavor. I believe that our Church has to do all it can to build up the Sacrament of Marriage and support couples who are working hard to ensure that their relationship is growing ever stronger. This is even truer than ever in a society where lifelong commitments and self-sacrifice are not in great evidence. Marriage is the cornerstone of our society and yet it is being threatened in a variety of ways by the changing moral and cultural values in our country. The media picks up on these trends and then saturates our young people with images of broken relationships, divorce and lifestyles that do not promote a monogamous union between a man and a woman. Marriage Encounter seeks to build on the graces God gives us in the marriage sacrament and helps couples to grow closer over the years. I highly recommend Marriage Encounter to all married couples.
