This past Saturday, I had the privilege of witnessing 25 marriages in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. These wonderful couples came together to have their civil unions convalidated in the Catholic Church. It is not uncommon for Catholics from other countries and cultures to arrive here without having had their marriages witnessed in the Catholic Church for a variety of reasons. I am grateful to Father Eleazar Silva, parochial vicar of the Cathedral, and Karina Del Castillo, Cathedral Hispanic Ministry secretary, for all their hard work in preparing the couples to celebrate the Sacrament this past weekend. Congratulations to all those who are now married in the Catholic Church. May the Lord Jesus Christ, who has called you together, nourish your love for one another and deepen the sacramental and human bonds that unite you.
