This past Memorial Day found many of us at Mount Calvary Cemetery for our annual Mass and Day of Remembrance for our beloved dead, especially those who died in action in past wars. We also remembered those civil servants, such as firefighters and police personnel, who died in the line of duty. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can live free, safe lives in our great country. As always, there was a good attendance for the Mass and the weather this year was picture perfect. Timothy Johnston, Director of the Diocesan Liturgical Office, prepared and led the music. Deacon Silvio Mayo saw to the many details of the day, and of course, our splendid cemetery director, Curt Rosentreter, oversaw the entire event. He was ably assisted by his staff: Olivia Sagastume, Mike Jansen, Carlos Martinez, Phil Holland and Hans Vieregge. We are blessed to have such a beautiful cemetery where our deceased loved ones can rest in peace, awaiting the final coming of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am grateful to Deacon Mayo, Mr. Rosentreter and the whole staff for their ongoing commitment to preserving and caring for this sacred ground.
