We had a touching service at the Tooele City Cemetery last week when we dedicated a memorial to the unborn. The Confirmation Class of 2008-2009 at St. Marguarite, under the guidance of their teachers, JoAnn Torres and Patty Snow, raised funds for a monument at the cemetery, honoring all those who died before birth. The confirmation class wanted to call attention to the many who are aborted in our country and also honor those who died from miscarriage or stillbirth. In this way, the students remind us that all of life is sacred, from conception to natural death. Father Hernando Diaz, pastor of St. Marguerite, as well as Patrick Dunlavy, the mayor of Tooele, were in attendance as were several of the city council members. The Knights of Columbus added an air of dignity to our service and the Director of the Office of Family Life, Veola Burchchett, also underscored the importance of the event by attending.  I am very proud of these students and of their teachers. Clearly, our Confirmation programs are having an important impact on our young people.
