Mission Task Force Meeting

Friday, May. 28, 2010
By The Most Rev. John C. Wester
Bishop of Salt Lake City

On a regular basis, the Mission Task Force meets to discuss our work in the missions of the diocese. Mr. Michael Lee generously serves as facilitator of the meeting, which is attended by clergy, religious and lay leaders who represent all those who work so hard in our missions. Every day,  and especially on weekends, these dedicated people drive hundreds of miles either to teach religious education classes, hear confessions, celebrate the Eucharist, Baptize, organize parish activities, lead the Sunday Celebration in the Absence of a Priest, lead counseling sessions or just “sit a spell” to listen to the needs of the parishioners.  We in the Salt Lake Valley can forget that our diocese is quite vast and many of our fellow Catholics are living in rural Utah, far from the services and celebrations we may take for granted. I am profoundly grateful to all those who reach out to our brothers and sisters in the missions and I ask that God keep them safe as they travel so many miles in the service of our Church.
