BOUNTIFUL — After months of instruction, planning and rehearsal, the newly formed Saint Olaf School Drama Club presented its first theatrical production Feb. 3.
The after-school Drama Club, which was organized in September, consisted of 35 students from grades 3-8 who have an interest in theatrical arts. Club advisors Principal Laurie Jacobs, Matthew Pack and Kathy Dorich spent many hours after school instructing and coaching students on acting, singing and the ever-important stage crew duties required to present an entertaining performance.
“Happily Forever After” was chosen as the club’s first production because it afforded the best opportunity to showcase every member of the cast with individual performances so that each member was an important part of the show.
The cast and crew presented an extraordinary story complete with a brave knight, a beautiful princess, a dangerous dragon, and a prince – but this was no fairy tale!  “Happily Forever After” presents humorous and entertaining performances from the youngest to the oldest cast members, and narrates a journey of mixed travelers along the narrow road to their destination. Troubles and temptations plague the travelers until they agree to follow the simple Carpenter to The Shining Kingdom, where the Carpenter reveals that there is “not just heaven when you die,” but that they will live a new life as citizens of an Eternal Kingdom, seeing the King of Kings and enjoying him forever.
The students presented two performances on Feb. 3, one in the afternoon for the school, and a standing-room-only performance for parents, relatives and friends, who were enchanted by the excellent theatrical experience.
Principal Laurie Jacobs commented that “the best part of this whole experience was discovering the really amazing talent shown by all the club members. Creativity not only in the performance by the actors, but exhibited by the very talented stage crew who designed and produced the scenery was so gratifying to us who worked with these wonderful students.”
Drama Club members are thrilled with their performances and can’t wait for next year’s Drama club to begin.
