Ordination to the Priesthood

On Saturday, May 29, many from our diocese gathered in the Cathedral for the ordinations of Reverend Tai Nguyen and Reverend Joseph Frez. This ancient ritual was truly awe inspiring and, coupled with the beautiful liturgical music, lifted our hearts and souls to God as we celebrated the ordination of our two new priests. I was very happy to see so many priests, deacons, religious, pastoral center staff and laity from all over the diocese. People came from as far away as St. George! Father Frez’s mother traveled from California to be with us, as did many other members from the families of both of the newly ordained. Unfortunately, Father Nguyen’s parents were not able to obtain a U.S. visa so they could not be present. Nonetheless, they were with us in spirit and in prayer and I congratulate once again the families of these marvelous new priests. Many thanks as well to all who have worked with these splendid men over the past seven years or so. We thank God for the gift of their vocations and we pray that many more will answer God’s call to serve his people as priests.
