WEST VALLEY CITY — Father Andrzej Skrzypiec, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Magna, welcomed the field of 29 teams to the second annual Our Lady of Lourdes Golf Tournament at West Ridge Golf Course June 13.

The forecast called for rain, but some golfers were optimistic and dressed in shorts as if the sun would shine. Others chose to wear their rain gear and had their umbrellas packed.

The skies were overcast and it was cool as golfers loaded their clubs on their carts and headed for their designated tees for the 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. It started to rain about five holes into the four-person scramble format, but that did not stop the golfers from proceeding on to the finish. Besides the rain stopped after about four holes and the sun tried to break through the cloud-layered sky to warm up the golfers who were now wet with rain. The weathered stayed pretty nice until after lunch when a cloud burst accompanied by thunder and lightening struck.

Golfers Dallas Weiss, Hayes Wood, Todd Fellows, and Rawley Loutensock won first place in the A flight.

Jay Morgan, Hayden Morgan, Dalton Driggers, and Frank Fratto won first place in the B flight.

Wayne Sucese, Deena Sucese, Michelle Dastrup, and Troy Dastrup won first place in the C flight division.

The most honest foursome on the field was Dale Morris, Patrick Morris, Brent Morris, and Clint Singleton.

The golf tournament was sponsored by the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Council and proceeds from the tournament will benefit the parish.
