Happy Birthday! Epifanio (Eppie) Gonzales, a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Salt Lake City, celebrated his 90th birthday on Jan. 8. During his family party, Father Ken Vialpando blessed Eppie and referred to him as a pillar of the parish and a stellar example to all Catholics.

More room for treasures! The Twice Loved Treasures Thrift Store in Hurricane, run by Saint Paul Mission, had a new storage box delivered two weeks ago in the rear parking lot. The extra space will give them room to offer furniture and larger donations. Thanks to Andy Anderson for building a ramp and Jean Bourque for installing shelves in the new storage area.

Of the dozens of Judge Memorial Catholic High School graduates recently home for semester breaks who stopped by to visit the faculty and staff at Judge, three made a visit in full uniform. Alexis Martinez, another 2010 grad who is at the United States Military Academy’s Preparatory School, missed the photo opportunity, but reports that she is thrilled to have made the decision to pursue a military career.

Election results! Father Mark Padrez, OP, has been elected Prior Provincial of the Western Dominican Province, of which the Saint Catherine of Siena Newman Center is a ministry. Fr. Padrez, is 16th Prior Provincial of the Province, which encompasses 10 states. He will have both temporal and spiritual responsibility for the 150 priests and brothers of the Dominican community serving in 18 parishes and Newman Centers as well as independent ministries throughout the region. As Provincial he will also have responsibility for the spiritual guidance of approximately 20,000 families registered in Dominican parishes as well as thousands of individuals in missions and mission sites in Mexico, Guatemala, Kenya, and Eastern Europe.
