Regarding Fr. James Roth, OSFS (former Brother of the Oblates of St. Frances de Sales)

On Thursday, March 26, 2015, the Diocese of Salt Lake City received information that the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Diocese of Toledo posted a notice on their respective websites regarding Fr. James Roth, OSFS. The statement is as follows:

“The Toledo–Detroit Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales (OSFS) has deemed credible a complaint of sexual misconduct with a minor by one of the religious order’s priests, Fr. James Roth (1953–2015). From 1995–2004, during his time as a teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio, Fr. Roth also helped with the weekend Mass and sacramental schedule at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monroe, Michigan. Other assignments included schools in Utah and Ontario, Canada. Fr. Roth died February 11, 2015.”

From 1987–1993, while serving as a brother of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, Fr. Roth worked at Judge Memorial Catholic High School.
