The Diocese of Salt Lake City celebrated the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion for the Wasatch Deanery and the Salt Lake Deanery on March 4 in the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
“We cannot live our lives without Christ,” said Father Martin Diaz, the cathedral rector, during his remarks to the candidates and the Elect. “The Rite of Election, it calls you – and reminds all of us – that Christ knocks on our door, knocks on the door of our life, and we open that door and Christ comes into our heart … and you are changed. You are made different by the grace of God, just as all of us who are baptized have been made different.”
The diocese has 273 catechumens and 153 candidates this year.
The rite will be celebrated for the Eastern, Northern and Southwestern deaneries on March 11. Bishop Oscar A. Solis will preside.
