Robert L. Barney
July 9, 1937 ~ January 2, 2022
Robert (Bob) L. Barney passed away January 2, 2022, from complications of a stroke. Born July 9, 1937, in Provo, he spent most of his youth in Hermiston, Oregon, where he met many lifelong friends.
Bob married the beautiful Violet (Vi) Peterson on August 29, 1959. Together they had four sons: Scott, David, Michael (deceased) and Mark.  A parishioner of St Olaf’s, he gave his time willingly, coaching youth basketball for many years and was instrumental in the fundraising and building of the McNamara Center.
After working for Mountain Fuel Supply, he started a path towards owning his own business. He formed a very successful HVAC company, where he kept people employed and treated everyone fairly. Bob and Vi loved to travel. Seeing the world with friends and family gave them great joy.
He loved sports: playing tennis and basketball throughout his youth, coaching and watching his children, and supporting the University of Utah. He received his certification to scuba dive at age 70 and enjoyed many memorable trips underwater with his family. Bob skied until age 80 and played golf until the fall of 2020. Many great family trips were taken to Lake Powell, where we would water ski until the sun was ready to set.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Vi (April 2017) and infant son Michael. Survived by his brother Gary; sons Scott (Sue Dawn), David and Mark; granddaughters Brittny Vanderhoof, Jessica (Brian) Hymel, Katherine Barney and Emerald Barney; great-grandchildren Natalie and Michael Vanderhoof, Amelia and Ellis Hymel.
He lived life his way, and it was a great life. He will be missed.
A private funeral Mass was celebrated January 8, 2022, at St Olaf’s followed by interment at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
