SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Tribune named Juan Diego Catholic High School the Boys’ School of the Year, and Saint Joseph Catholic High School the Girls’ High School of the Year.

Juan Diego won state titles as a 2A school and has continued to do so as a 3A school. The Soaring Eagle team went unbeaten in football winning its first Class 3A title against Logan High School. They advanced to the semifinal round in basketball. And in baseball, were equally as dominating. Juan Diego lost just two games all spring. They won the State Baseball Championship against Judge Memorial Catholic High School beating them twice in two days.

Juan Diego Baseball Coach and Athletic Director Steve Cramblitt said, "Coaches may know the game, but they can’t do it without talented players."

Saint Joseph dominated the year in girls’ team sports. The Jay Hawks won four state titles including soccer, cross country, golf, and track. They took second place in tennis.

Saint Joseph Soccer Coach and Athletic Director Alex Salvo told the Salt Lake Tribune the sophomore and freshmen classes are very talented. Saint Joseph has never had four titles just on the girls’ side. It makes the school very proud.

The Jay Hawks won their region titles in girls’ basketball and volleyball. The school also took second in state at the girls’ tennis state tournament last fall.

One reason for Saint Joseph’s success is the school is small and many students play many different sports. They train year round and stay in shape.
