St. Joseph Villa

Bishop of Salt Lake City

I was saddened to learn that CHRISTUS Health has decided to sell St. Joseph Villa. The Sisters of the Incarnate Word as well as the chief administrators made a valiant attempt to work things out but they simply could no longer sustain the financial losses that were being incurred. I am grateful to the administration for working so closely with our diocese in these deliberations. Monsignor Fitzgerald sits on their board and has been most helpful in guiding the decision making process. CHRISTUS will seek to find a Catholic buyer or at least a not-for-profit party interested in continuing the Villa’s important work of providing housing and care for our elderly. However, there always exists the outside chance that the Villa will have to be sold and its present function abandoned. We have been given every assurance that in any case, the current residents will be given every consideration and will be supported throughout the process.

Changes such as these can be very stressful not only on the residents but also for the staff who are so dedicated and hard-working. I know that the administration of CHRISTUS is doing all they can to keep the staff in the loop and to ease any concerns they may have. Please join me in praying that buyers can be found who, because of their expertise and connections, can maintain St. Joseph Villa as a thriving and supportive place for our seniors to live out their final years.
