WEST VALLEY CITY — Saints Peter and Paul Parish in West Valley City will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Aug. 14.

The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. with a Mass at which Bishop Oscar A. Solis will preside. This will be followed by the presentation of the parish hymn by Father Sebastien Sasa Nganomo, the parish administrator.

Also included will be music by the children’s Mariachi band, folkloric dances, a presentation by the Tongan community, poetry, traditional food and a dance.

The parish began its anniversary celebrations last year by dedicating a pastoral year with the theme “Corresponsibility – Our Mission.”

“This pastoral year helped to prepare for the festivities that will take place to mark the parish’s 50th anniversary,” Fr. Sasa said.

During this pastoral year, the Sts. Peter and Paul community, “activated five sectors of pastoral ministry in order to accompany the holy people of God in their spiritual and human journey,” Fr. Sasa said.

The parish community which is comprised of parishioners from diverse ethnic backgrounds, is very excited about the celebration.

“It’s a privilege to know that we are continuing the work of the people that started 50 years ago,” said Andres Acosta, a Knight of Columbus.
