The Red Mass

Last Friday I had the privilege of celebrating the "Red Mass" at our beautiful cathedral.  This traditional Mass goes back many years and has Saint Thomas More as its patron. It is a Mass during which we pray for all of those who serve society through their support of the law. Hence, we invite judges, attorneys, police officers, military personnel and legislators to be part of this Mass. It is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude for all that these professionals do for all of us here in Utah and beyond. Whether they enact laws, enforce the law, practice the law or judge the law, they are helping to provide for the common good and the right ordering of our society. It is also an opportunity for us to pray for their safety since many of them come into harm’s way in the exercise of their duties. Please remember to keep all of our “Red Mass” participants in your prayers and if you have an opportunity, let them know of your gratitude.
