By The Most Rev. John C. Wester
Bishop of Salt Lake City

On April 30 we had separate farewell parties for two exemplary workers in our diocese.  The Pastoral Center hosted a lunch for Mrs. Ginni Biediger who gave 18 years of dedicated service to our diocese. We will miss Ginni’s pleasant smile and kind outreach to so many people over the years.  I was touched by those who stopped by to say goodbye, including a package delivery person and several others who came into contact with Ginni through her work at the pastoral center. Clearly, her kindness was recognized by many and we wish her many years of good health and happiness in her retirement. Actually, I think that Father Rob Moriarity at Saint Francis Xavier Parish will be benefiting from her increased free time as she joins her husband, Deacon Doug, to help out at the parish where she already sings in the choir.

Then in the evening of April 30, we gathered to acknowledge Mr. Jim Yerkovich who is retiring after 44 years at Judge Memorial High School. It was wonderful to see some of Coach Yerkovich’s former players and students attend his retirement dinner and they all expressed their gratitude and admiration for their former coach. Jim has had a positive impact on many, many students and his wisdom and compassion helped to keep many students on the right path in life.  Jim mentioned to us that he is profoundly proud of the title, “Coach” and I have a feeling that he will continue coaching well beyond his retirement. Thanks for everything, Coach, and I hope you have many more years of health, happiness and joy in your retirement.
