The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is one of the most successful features of post-Vatican II liturgical renewal. It replaced the old inquiry class model, in which the priest (generally a priest) taught the inquirer (or inquirers) doctrine and morals. The place of formation was the classroom, the symbol was the blackboard, and the leader was a lecturer. This model continues in some parishes today.

SALT LAKE CITY — Surrounded by pictures of her loving family, Mary Conway Taylor lives comfortably in her apartment at St. Joseph Villa. Mary was born on March 31, 1915 to parents who were Irish immigrants. She attended parochial schools for 12 years under the guidance of the Dominican Sisters and graduated from the Immaculate Conception Academy in San Francisco, Calif.

SALT LAKE CITY — Two of the three Utah Catholic high schools took regional championships during the winter sports season, while Juan Diego CHS took its first girls’ basketball UHSAA 3A State Championship title (see story p. 12). In addition, Soaring Eagle freshman wrestler John Manning won the 138-pound 3A UHSAA state championship title (see story p. 12) and Juan Diego’s drill team was named Small Division National Champions in the small group division at the National Contest of Champions High School Dance and Drill Team competition in Orlando, Fla.
