Red Mass — Friday, Sept. 5, at noon in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. The Diocese of Salt Lake City will celebrate the annual Red Mass, with Bishop John C. Wester presiding. All are invited to join in honoring those in the legal professions.

SALT LAKE CITY — Legend, myth and movies have created a deceitful popular image of Mary Magdalene, patroness of the Cathedral of the Madeleine: Many people identify her as the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and dried them with her hair, and as the woman who was to be stoned for adultery. However, the Gospels never name these women, and there is no evidence that either was Mary Magdalene.

Catedral de la Magdalena. Muchas personas la identifican como la mujer que lavo los pies de Jesús con sus lágrimas y como la mujer adúltera. Sin embargo, el Evangelio nuca da nombre a estas mujeres y no existe evidencia alguna que esta fuera María Magdalena.
El Evangelio si describe a María de Magdala – la ciudad en que ella vivió – como una mujer con siete demonios quitados de ella por Jesús. Los cuatro Evangelios también la ubican al pie de la Cruz. Fue ella la primera que vio la resurrección de Cristo.
