Year of Faith Pilgrimage: Saint Mary Catholic Church

WEST HAVEN — Although Saint Mary Parish in West Haven was heavily influenced by the Jesuits, the parish’s beginning was in 1945 as a mission of Saint Joseph Parish in Ogden, to serve the 147 Spanish-speaking families on the city’s west side. A former Civilian Conservation Corps administration building at 22nd Street and Reeves Avenue in Ogden was remodeled to serve as a chapel for Santa Maria de Guadalupe Mission. Father Ramon Guerras provided pastoral care, and members of the Sisters of the Holy Cross taught catechism at the mission for the first two years. >>>

Annual Carmelite Fair is scheduled for Sept. 15

HOLLADAY — Committees are meeting and preparations are being made for the annual Carmelite Fair to be held Sept. 15 at the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Monastery in Holladay.  >>>

Carmelite Fair — Sept. 15, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Carmelite Monastery, 5714 Holladay Blvd., SLC. The Carmelite Fair is the main source of income for the nuns; support them by donating to and participating in the event. Donations can be dropped off at the monastery or picked up upon arrangement.
