Msgr. Mayo named honorary canon of the Cathedral Church of Saint Mark

SALT LAKE CITY — For 101 years, the Cathedral of the Madeleine and the Cathedral Church of Saint Mark have stood a block from each other. The sister cathedrals, one representing the seat of the Catholic diocese, the other the seat of Utah’s Episcopal Church, “stand as icons in this city, representing and proclaiming to all the message of salvation given by our Lord Jesus Christ,” said the Very Rev. SALT LAKE CITY —In 1917, the world was at war, the United States faced a brutal winter with record cold temperatures, fuel was in short supply, food was rationed. Yet in Salt Lake City, the Most Rev. Joseph S. Glass, the diocese’s second bishop, prepared to open the Cathedral of the Madeleine after its interior renovation, unveiling 258 angels painted on the walls and ceilings among other Biblical scenes.
That interior magnificence was restored in 1993; the exterior was renovated in 1980; the interior was restored again in 1993. >>>

OGDEN — Holy Family Parish youth walked in the shoes of the poor for 24 hours by going without food and sleeping outside on the parish lawn Oct. 1-25 to raise funds for Catholic Community Services Food Bank in Ogden. The 13- to 17- year-olds ingested only water, juice and broth and slept in tents made out of cardboard boxes. >>>
