RIVERTON — Teachers from the Pacific Alliance for Catholic Educations (PACE) have served in the Diocese of Salt Lake City since the opening of Skaggs Catholic Center in 1999. In a diocese where there are no Catholic colleges and a small pool of Catholic teachers, PACE has been a real asset to several of our Catholic schools for the past 11 years.

SALT LAKE CITY – For many, the dream of retirement includes long, lazy days on the beach in the sun, but that’s not how the golden years are unfolding for Father John Hart, who retired two years ago after 50 years as a parish priest in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. SANDY — Last year during the groundbreaking for Saint Thomas More Parish’s new addition, Father David L. Van Massenhove, pastor, said, “We cannot invite people to join our parish if we do not have anything for them to do, to grow.”

SALT LAKE CITY — People of all abilities attended the “Catholics Can” Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeline Sept. 4.
Wheelchairs lined both sides of the center aisle of the cathedral for the Mass sponsored by the commission for People with Disabilities. Carol Ruddell, a member of the commission, used sign language and Cecilee Wilson, a closed caption stenographer, typed the words of the Mass on a screen for the hearing impaired.

Wester, pastor Father Sam Dinsdale and former pastor Father Matthew Wixted, as well as members of the city council, Saint Marguerite Parish broke ground for the long-awaited Monsignor John Sullivan Education Center.

DRAPER – The Liturgy of the Hours is the official set of daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church to be recited at the canonical hours by the clergy, religious orders and laity. “It is often assumed these prayers are not for the laity,” said Timothy Johnston, director of the Diocesan Office of Liturgy.
Johnston will give a basic introduction and overview of the Liturgy of the Hours Sept. 18.

For the past three years, despite the depressed economy, the number of people in the Bishop’s Leadership Society has grown. Individuals in this group donate at least $1,000 yearly to the Diocesan Development Drive, which supports the Diocese of Salt Lake City’s ministries, programs and services.

Aug. 20 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced that they had received the final text of the third edition of the Roman Missal. The Bishops’ Conference has set an implementation date of Nov. 27, 2011, the first Sunday of Advent. This is great news! Stay tuned for the many formation opportunities the diocese will host, including the Southwest Liturgical Conference Study Week February 2-5.
In the last several articles we have covered the main components of the Liturgy of the Word. In this article we arrive at the end of this section of the liturgy. The Prayers of the Faithful or General Intercessions conclude our reflection on God’s word and lead us to the Eucharistic table.
