As a young boy, I remember very clearly what an honor it was for my family to be the gift-bearers. It did not happen often, but when it did, we dressed in our Sunday best, and as a family, we all walked up the center aisle to hand the priest and servers the bread and the wine. What has been your experience of gift bearing, whether at Mass or in general?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (which I draw upon here) sets out in five very expressive paragraphs the ministry and work of the angels (no. 331-336). The angels have been present and active in creation and in salvation history from the beginning. They closed the earthly paradise, protected Lot, saved Hagar and her child, stayed Abraham’s hand, communicated the law and assisted the prophets.
