Students at Kearns-St. Ann School learn about Christmas traditions at a Jesse Tree. The tree was created by seventh graders at the parish religious education program under the direction of Dora LaVoie.

>>>HOLLADAY — "I bet you can’t" was the challenge from seventh grade teacher Deborah Ferree that launched a reading marathon at Holladay’s St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School. Coupled with the Scholastic Book Club, seventh-graders turned off the TV and put away the PlayStations to read over 100 books in only four weeks as part of Scholastic’s Classroom Cares Program. "Success at reaching the 100-book milestone triggers a donation by Scholastic Books," explains Ferree. In honor of my student’s achievement, Scholastic will donate 100 books to low-income families. "There is a real sense of empowerment among the students knowing they are giving the joy of reading to children in need" said Ferree.
