Sacred Triduum rites bring us closer to Christ

Friday, Apr. 11, 2014
The other day I attended a Jazz basketball game. I was amazed at the level of enthusiasm the fans displayed, even if we are not having the best season ever! I thought to myself, "I wonder if we could generate this same enthusiasm for the great celebrations of Easter Week?" After all, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, also referred to as the "Sacred Triduum," celebrate and make real our ticket into heaven. What could be more important than our salvation and the promise of eternal life? I was pleased to have a ticket to the basketball game, but Christ offers me a ticket of infinitely greater value! >>>

Taking KAIROS – God's time

Friday, Apr. 11, 2014
SALT LAKE CITY — You tell yourself you won’t cry. The case of tissues piled among a billion snacks unloaded from the bus implies otherwise. Kairos Retreat leaders know the hunger for solace, kinship and God is as great as the insatiable belly of a teenager. They plan for it, create a sacred space for it, and at the end of four days, celebrate it. >>>

Holy Week is a living reality, not a passion play

Friday, Apr. 11, 2014
Some time ago, I had a conversation with a lady who had attended the Oberammergau Passion Play in the south of Germany in 2004. The play, enacted every 10 years since 1634, involves 2,000 performers, musicians and stage technicians, all of whom are residents of the town of Oberammergau. The play, which runs for seven hours, acts out in a highly dramatic fashion the final events of Christ’s earthly life. >>>
