In the rock-opera Jesus Christ Superstar from the early 1970s there is a catchy tune where the apostles ask Jesus, "What’s the buzz? Tell us what’s a-happening." As followers of Jesus they want to know where their ministry is heading, what they will be doing as members of his Church, how will history treat them, and who gets to sit at the right hand of the Lord.

The feast of the Presentation of the Lord on Feb. 2 has always been a favorite of mine and so I was really pleased that it fell on a Sunday this year, thus enabling more people to celebrate it. We processed through our churches with candles this past Sunday because the Presentation is a celebration of light. We read in Luke’s Gospel that Jesus is a light to all nations. We also heard Malachi speak of the refiner’s fire, developing this image of light into a transformative brilliance that changes who we are, just as gold and silver is transformed from crude ore to precious metal. Jesus Christ is our light because he is the Savior of the world who brings us from darkness to light, from sin to grace and from death to life.

ST. GEORGE — The Pro-Life Ministry for Southern Utah and the Saint George Parish Knights of Columbus council have joined forces to raise funds for a portable ultrasound machine to allow pregnant women in southern Utah who may be considering an abortion to see a sonogram of their unborn child.

La Festividad del 2 de febrero ‘La presentación del Señor’ siempre ha sido una de mis favoritas y este año me alegró mucho que cayera en domingo, permitiendo así que más personas pudieran celebrarla.
