SALT LAKE CITY — The turn of golden shovels held by dignitaries represented “the visible beginning of a new milestone for The Madeleine Choir School. The dirt, the sledge hammers – we are finally doing this, and we are so very excited,” said Jill Baillie, principal, during the July 23 groundbreaking for the restoration of Jacquelyn M. Erbin Hall, one of five buildings on the campus near the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City.

OGDEN — For more than 50 years, Benedictine Sister Danile Knight ministered to the northern Utah community, first at St. Benedict’s Hospital, then at Our Lady of the Mountains Retreat House and finally as prioress of St. Benedict’s Monastery. Many of the people she touched during those years attended the July 28 Memorial Eucharist at St. Joseph Catholic Church to pay their respects to Sr. Danile, who died July 18 at Saint Scholastica convent in St. Cloud, Minn.

MIDVALE — Humble, hard-working, always happy and willing to help: Saint Therese of the Child Jesus parishioner Saul Morales left a legacy of faith.
On July 5 at 9:45 p.m. Morales drew his last breath; he had started chemotherapy a year before due to stomach cancer, but the disease put him in a coma before his death.

SALT LAKE CITY — Pro-life advocates from across the Salt Lake Valley rallied peacefully in front of Planned Parenthood July 28, calling for state and federal officials to investigate and defund Planned Parenthood. The event was in conjunction with the national “Women Betrayed” rally organized by Students for Life of America and its partner organization Pro-Life Future; rallies took place in about 65 cities across the nation.
