SALT LAKE CITY — Ulster Project-Utah paired 12 Northern Ireland Catholic and Protestant teens with an equal number of Utah teens to help build peace by weakening religious divisions that have persisted for centuries in violence-plagued Northern Ireland. Although the fighting is not what it was, tension and division between the two religious groups still exists in Northern Ireland.

HOLLADAY — The Knights of Columbus Council 602, which is based at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, presented a checked for $50,000 to the Carmelite nuns at the Holladay monastery on July 10; the money had been collected over the past several years and included proceeds from the sale of some properties that belonged to the Colombian Society and the Knights of Columbus, said Tom Catrow, the council’s Grand Knight.

The Diocese of Salt Lake City Commission for People with Disabilities is seeking nominations for the Catholics Can Award and the Catholics Do Award. The Catholics Can Award is for individuals, parishes or organizations who ensure all are made welcome. The Catholics Do Award recognizes those who serve their faith, regardless of/along with their disability or challenges.
