I must confess, I have been thoughtless in my Lenten practices. In the daily rush of work; transporting kids to school, practices, and activities; and completing a long list of errands; I have spent more time thinking about what I will make for a meatless Friday dinner than considering why I am preparing a meatless meal in the first place. Fasting is meant to be a meaningful experience, not just a task we check off a list.

Overall, I am happy with the renewed liturgical rites the Church has put in place since Vatican II. The new liturgical books that began to appear in the late 1960s are far from perfect, though, and will always be in need of improvement and development. The kind of ongoing reform I espouse would slowly and carefully build on the rites we have been given.

KEARNS — As the evening began, the guests mingled and a buzz rolled across the room as many old familiar faces re-entered the Saint Francis Xavier School building – no longer as students but as guests. This year’s 28th Annual "From the Heart" Auction hosted more than 30 returning alumni, family and friends.

SALT LAKE CITY — The kindergarten class at Saint Vincent de Paul School made quite a splash with their original opera on March 13. The students performed "Swimmy," based on the book by author Leo Lionni. This delightful story showed how one can overcome danger with ingenuity and teamwork.

SALT LAKE CITY — When Patti Moesinger and her family moved from Denver to Kanab in the 1980s, she experienced something of a culture shock. Her parish in Colorado had been a large congregation; her new home in Utah was "a community with 3,000 people and 97 percent LDS, so we only had 30 families in our parish in Kanab at Saint Christopher’s, and I saw such a need to start a religious education program for the children and bring religious education to the people there. ... It made a difference in my children’s lives and the children of our parish."

En su parroquia en Colorado había una gran congregación; su nuevo hogar en Utah era "una comunidad de cerca de 3,000 personas y 97 por ciento de ellas LDS, asi es que solo teníamos 30 familias en nuestra parroquia en Kanab Saint Christopher, y vi tanta necesidad de comenzar un programa de educación religiosa para los niños y llevarla a la gente de ahí".
