SALT LAKE CITY - El fin de semana pasado, cientos de personas, entre latinos y anglos, se reunieron en el Centro Cívico Mexicano con dos propósitos: la celebración del 5 de mayo y pra un Rally Inmigratorio.
En la puerta la gente recibió letreros para apoyar la causa migratoria y muchos de ellos llevaban pancartas en señal de su apoyo a la reforma migratoria.

Arizona’s tough, new immigration bill (SB 1070) has elicited some strong reaction from the citizens of our country, indeed, from people around the world. It has also deepened the divide between those who see the undocumented immigrant as the problem and those who see our outdated immigration laws in need of reform. In my view, this heightened divide is both good and bad. It’s good if Arizona’s SB 1070 spurs our federal government into action toward reform and it’s bad because we keep trying to fix the system with enforcement-only legislation that has proven ineffective time and again.

Local students whose entries won the Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest now are waiting for the judging of the international competition, with results to be announced this month. Two of the state winners were from Saint Francis Xavier Regional School: Mariah Trujillo and Eva Marisol Barajas, who both entered the Drug Awareness category.
